9/9 First visiting Ugo-machi
Today I went to Ugo-machi in southern Akita to help clean up an old house which is going to be turned into a community centre for locals and international students to mingle.
Cleaning may sound boring, but I enjoyed doing something useful after my long holiday in Hokkaido.
The old house made me nostalgic, reminding me of places I had gone for community activities with Akita International University two years ago.
Establishing community centres and participating in community events is important in a rural area, and you can tell there are strong ties between people in these places.
